Some of you may be familiar with these pictures, I have posted them online before. However when they are combined, a great and encouraging message can be told.
The picture on the right is of me on the creator of Mount Vesuvius, the famous and still active volcano that destroyed the city of Pompeii in the year 79 A.D. But, what does it have to do with the picture on the right?
Well, it shows that with God all things ARE POSSIBLE!!! I was not permitted to do many of the things others my age could do. I was, at one long extended time, forbidden to fly due to possible medical reactions from high altitudes. Growing up I had a tendency to overheat, be light headed, get pains in my feet and my sides from over excursion, much faster than other children. Not to mention my serious heart condition which required surgery at the age of 3 months (depicted in the picture on the left).
Many lost their lives in Pompeii's destruction, just as not every one survives their medical challenges. I could of, if not for the Grace of God, died long ago.
To be honest, as time has gone on, it might have been easier to live in fear of my heart and medical challenges, just let them dictate my possibilities of my future. However, I CHOOSE, with wisdom (a VERY important word here), to NOT let them hold me back and that, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13
Now, With God's help, I have overcome those past medical mountains. On a very important 2011 visit to see my cardiologist, he told me that if it was not for him having the medical records and seeing my external scar, he would have no idea that there was ever anything wrong with me. I no longer have any enlargement, visible internal scar tissue or even a murmur! Now is our God not great?
Though even now with all of God's healing, the physical mountain climb of Vesuvius was still not the easiest but, I made it, despite my past medical history. Sometimes it takes the foolish things to dumbfound the wise. We all have pasts that we think can stop our futures but, we MUST keep climbing and with God's help and following His direction, we can make it if we just try and take that first step of faith. Don't look at other people's unsuccessful tries and say you can't do it. Learn from them and keep going!
